Quartet Workshop

Quartet Workshop with Touché and Pam Pieson

If you weren’t there, you missed an amazing weekend!  Here’s what you missed…

Region 21 brought you the best in quartet education with the 2015 Quartet Workshop with Touché!

January 30 - February 1, 2015

Town and Country Resort & Convention Center

500 Hotel Circle North, San Diego, CA  92108

Touché is the 2013 Sweet Adelines International Champion Quartet, winning the coveted quartet gold after just two International competition appearances. This coast-to-coast musical adventure (two members live on the west coast, two on the east) is the direct result of friendships made through each quartet member’s many years of singing and competing in Sweet Adelines – usually against one another in other quartets! Though the distance may be thousands of miles, they bridge the country between them with their unique, special brand of friendship and harmony. Their ability to entertain with a mixture of energy, humor, and tight harmonies took them straight to the championship and will surely bring you to the edge of your seat! Touche’ also loves sharing the education they have been blessed to receive as long-time barbershoppers, and is honored to be guest faculty at this year’s Region 21 Quartet Workshop.

As if that weren’t enough to entice you to make your reservations for San Diego right now, there’s even more! In June, our Musical Leaders went to “Spring Training” with Sharon Babb, so to extend the baseball metaphor to this event, sometimes, late in the game, things happen and you have to bring in a pinch hitter to score a home run and win it all. In our Game 7, Gina Baker, the Lead of Touché, will not be able to attend the Quartet Workshop with the rest of her quartet, but the fabulous Pam Pieson has agreed to “come to the plate.” She will teach, coach, and sing with Touché – it promises to be a spectacular weekend: Touché with a bit of Panache.

Held in beautiful San Diego, this year’s quartet workshop features a full schedule of classes, multiple opportunities for quartet coaching, Personal Vocal Instruction (PVI) with members of Club 21, and an intimate Saturday evening show featuring Touché with Pam Pieson. See the full schedule below for all the offerings (tentative, subject to change). You don’t want to miss this special educational event.

Meet Touché and Pam Pieson!

Patty Cobb Baker

Patty Cobb Baker is a professional voice teacher and vocal coach, embarking on the career in 1996 after a 14-year stint as a business analyst with NASA. She is a 31-year member of Sweet Adelines International (SAI), has earned regional championships singing both lead and tenor, and is the tenor of the 2013 SAI Championship Quartet, Touché. Patty is the Education Coordinator for the SAI Champion Harborlites Chorus, dances on their energetic front row, and was Chapter President when the chorus earned their first International championship. Patty currently serves on the Sweet Adelines International Board of Directors and is the International Treasurer. She also serves on the International Nominating Committee and the Editorial Review Board, and is a member of the International Faculty. Patty is married to Jeff Baker, a long-time barbershopper and Baritone of the BHS International Champion Quartet, Nightlife. Patty and Jeff live in Long Beach, California with their two dogs, Max and Oliver.

[Gina Baker won’t be able to attend, but here’s why we’ll sure miss her!]

Gina Baker

Gina Baker, lead of the Sweet Adelines International (SAI) Championship Quartet, Touché, has been around barbershop music her whole life. Yep, she is what they call a Barbershop Brat! She became a member of Sweet Adelines in 1993 and is currently a member of the Toast of Tampa Show Chorus where she serves on the management team and dances in the front row. Gina also sang with Jan in Jackpot!, SAI three-time Silver Medalist Quartet. She is a member of the Region 9 Education Faculty and also coaches several regional quartets and choruses. Gina is married to Jeff, and they make their home in Tampa, Florida with their daughters Lauren and Lisa. She works as a registered nurse at Tampa’s St. Joseph’s Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In her spare time, Gina loves to read, golf, and spend time with her family.

Kim Chadwick-McCormic

Kim Chadwick-McCormic is the bass of the 2013 Sweet Adelines International (SAI) Championship Quartet, Touché. Life outside of Sweet Adelines is narrow but rich with family and career. Kim has four children and five grandchildren. Her career is in the medical field, specializing in Compounding Pharmacy and Nutritional Education and Marketing. She sings with the Pride of Portland Chorus, the same group of women for the last 25 years! Kim has sung in several quartets that competed on the International level. They include Razzcals, ACT IV, and Out of Bounds. Her favorite past times are race walking events, cycling, coaching choruses and quartets and, most importantly, playing “domestic goddess” in her back yard with her family and friends.

Jan Anton

Jan Anton is the baritone of the 2013 Sweet Adelines International (SAI) Championship Quartet, Touché. She got her start in Sweet Adelines in 1979 as a member of the Melodeers Chorus. She won the International Chorus Championship in 1994 with the Melodeers in Reno. Not only did she win a gold medal, she also married Jerry (Gina’s Dad) that very same day! Jan has a wealth of quartet experience, competing at the International level for 25 years. She was the Baritone of Jackpot!, SAI three-time Silver Medalist Quartet. Her husband, Jerry, is also a barbershopper and has always been Jan’s biggest supporter. They make their home in DeLand, Florida. Jan works as a floor manager at Outback Steakhouse.

Pam Pieson

The dynamic and multi-talented Pam Pieson has served as the director of the Harborlites Chorus since 1993. Under Pam’s leadership, Harborlites has made a steady rise from regional medalist chorus to International Wild Card chorus competitor and finalist. Harborlites took home its first International Championship in Indianapolis in 2005 and returned to contest to claim the 2008 International gold medal in Calgary. In the most recent International competition in Baltimore, Harborlites earned bronze medals with A+ scores “across the board” in the finals, earning Pam the distinction of achieving Master Director 700 status. But Master Director is really Pam’s “second career” in barbershop. Pam was already famous in the world of barbershop as the lead of Panache, the 1990 International Champion Quartet. Her superb vocal artistry was instrumental in Panache capturing the championship and the performance of their signature song, “Sweet Adeline,” is still considered one of the watershed moments in the history of barbershop competition. As a member of Panache, Pam toured the United States performing on shows from coast to coast. The group recorded four CDs and, notably, performed for President Reagan’s 80th birthday party. In the years following the retirement of Panache, Pam has competed in several regional champion and international finalist quartets. As one might expect, Pam is a sought-after coach for quartets and choruses. Whether serving as director, quartet member, soloist, coach, or leader, Pam always brings her talents, her competitive spirit and her heart…and never fails to inspire.
